The Mid 20’s “RUT”

Most individuals who are in their mid to late twenties are in a similar stage in life.

Life is usually pretty good but you don't have a lot of experience at this point.

You may still be in the early stages of your career without much advancement options.

You may be recently married and still trying to figure things out.

You may be a new parent with no clue what you have gotten yourself into.

As I've talked about before, Julie and I were in our late 20s.  We had a few kids and I was still in the throes of my medical training.

We were so busy and it truly felt like we were getting nowhere.  Stuck

We were in a “ru”t as they say. It just felt like every day was the same thing.

The kids pretty much fought us every night not wanting to go to bed.  Every day was a battle and some days -  full on WAR.  It felt like the wheels were spinning but we were going nowhere.

Now…

As many of you know, we have eight kids. Our two oldest Sons both have amazing wives and two kids each.

We have watched these two couples raise these little ones and at times we have seen them experience similar frustrations to what we saw.

One of my daughter-in-law's used to work for me in our office. She did amazing work. She was superbly efficient and worked like a Trojan.

When they decided to have a family I was excited for them but also a bit sad because I was going to lose an amazing worker.

Since that time, we have had multiple conversations regarding parenting and raising children and the success that is felt in the workplace versus the relative lack of “Success” that you can feel as a parent.

In the workplace, there is much more tangible evidence of “accomplishment”. You know that you had a “good day's work” because all the tasks are checked off.

It is much more difficult to sense or measure that "accomplishment" as a parent.

This is one real life example of the Pullback phase of the Slingshot Principles we teach.

The Lesson…

The tension we tolerate now provides the launch and success in the future.

In our mid to late twenties it can feel like there is so much tension and no motion…

But the results will come.

Be patient in the process.

The promotions will come.

The kids will eventually listen.

It may take a while but tolerating the tension NOW will allow you to enjoy the Launch LATER!

The launch will actually happen but it takes patience and understanding the pullback.

EMBRACE THE PULLBACK AND ENJOY THE RIDE!

GIVE YOURSELF GRACE AND PATIENCE WHILE YOU LEARN TO LIVE IN THE “RUT
BUT SEE A BETTER FUTURE!
