Don’t Be Afraid to Be Afraid!

Have you ever been so afraid of something that it handcuffed you completely?

I certainly have. At least temporarily.

I will never forget the fear of a new church assignment. 

I had been called to serve a mission for 2 years and was assigned to serve in the Philippines.

On the day I entered the Missionary Training Center I was so nervous - I threw up in the bushes in front of the facility and then walked right into the facility for the introductory meeting and served my two year mission.

I always use that example when I'm talking to someone who has fear and decided to continue on the course anyways. 

I was scared to death. I had no idea what was in store for me. I didn't even truly know where the Philippines was on the globe. 

Learning a whole new language as well? I wasn't sure if I could even accomplish this.

However, as I look back at that experience and think to myself how it set the stage for so many other great things in my life.

Had I let the fear that I had and the nerves that I had that day handcuff or limit me, I would never have accomplished the things I have to this point. 

Fear is one of the most basic instincts in our lives and serves as a protective mechanism.

The critical principle to learn is - Don’t be afraid to be afraid!

So many times in life we allow our fears to shut us down… To keep us as something good instead of something great… To limit us instead of being limitless.

The SlingShot Principles help to clarify that the fears we feel, although they are real, can guide us to bigger and better things.

In order to LAUNCH - plan on being pulled back - and plan on being AFRAID at TIMES! This is normal. This is natural. Everyone has Fears!

Learn from the fear and become stronger because of it!
