THE PATIENT WHO NEVER GAVE UP!

I worked with a young patient in my orthopaedic office who had progressive knee pain. meniscal tears and arthritis.

This individual went through all the potential conservative options that we could offer until the pain was bad enough that we ended up scoping the knee on two separate occasions.

The results of those knee scopes were okay but unfortunately - were not long lasting.

We tried some more injections for the arthritis and these did not help.

Physical Therapy didn't help. The exercises that we recommended didn't help.  Basically everything that we had tried to do to relieve the pain did not help.

I was frustrated but the patient was even more frustrated.

Eventually, we proceeded with a total knee replacement. This is a big surgery that's obviously more invasive than just a simple knee arthroscopy. This individual was committed to work hard and get the best result possible.

I'm happy to report that through all of this the patient has done extremely well and has maintained a positive attitude although being frustrated at times.

The rehab and the recovery phase after the total knee replacement were hard but guess what the results were there.

This individual is doing extremely well.  Back doing the things that they want to do with really no restrictions. Hiking. Camping. Other outdoor activities that were once so painful are now an option again. This was an amazing thing to watch.

This entire process probably felt like forever for this patient.

The lesson here is that the Slingshot Principles are universal.

The Pullback phase is universal. It is not just limited to business. It is not just limited to our health. It is not just limited to our spiritual growth. It is a universal principle that will allow us clarity and understanding if we will just step out of the way and learn from it.

My hats off to this amazing patient who struggled for a long time without knowing if the benefit would come. This is the definition of the Pullback Phase.

I encourage all of us to continue along this path of understanding.

Be patient in the Pullback.

Tolerate it - knowing that there are better things ahead.
